Azar Abbasov, director of the Legal Department of FMS, was elected a member of the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the Council of Europe Convention (CETS 198) at the 13th Plenary Session of the Conference of the Parties to the Council of Europe Convention CETS 198 on 17-18 November 2021 on laundering, search, seizure and confiscation of the proceeds from crime on the financing of terrorism within the framework of ensuring active cooperation and participation of the Financial Monitoring Service (FMS) in the international organizations on AML/CFT.
Note that, CETS 198 Convention was signed on May 16, 2005 in Warsaw. The main objective of the Convention is to facilitate international co-operation and mutual assistance in investigating crime and the search, tracking down, detecting, freezing, seizing and confiscating of property obtained from these criminal activities. The Republic of Azerbaijan ratified the CETS 198 Convention by its Law of May 31, 2017. In addition, Azerbaijan participated in the horizontal assessments conducted under the CETS 198 Convention in 2018-2021.
