The upcoming Committee Meeting of the Egmont Group, to be hosted in Baku from May 13 to 15, 2025, will focus on enhancing international cooperation in the field of financial intelligence.
Hosted by the Financial Monitoring Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the event will bring together representatives of financial intelligence units (FIUs) from around the world. The Egmont Committee serves as the central coordinating body within the Egmont Group, playing a key role in the effective implementation of the Group’s 2022–2027 Strategic Plan. The Committee comprises the Egmont Group’s leadership, Executive Secretary, working groups, and regional group chairs.
The meeting is expected to gather participants from approximately 20 jurisdictions, representing all eight regional groups of the Egmont Group.
During the meeting, participants will exchange views on the Egmont Group’s current activities. Discussions will also focus on strengthening international collaboration, advancing joint initiatives, and sharing best practices in financial intelligence.
The decisions and recommendations adopted at the meeting are anticipated to contribute to the effectiveness of the Egmont Group’s operations, support the implementation of its 2022–2027 strategy, and promote global cooperation in combating financial crimes.
This meeting will mark the first time that Azerbaijan hosts an Egmont Group Committee Meeting — a significant milestone that reflects the country’s position as a reliable international partner in financial intelligence and its strong commitment to anti money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.
It is noteworthy that a representative of Azerbaijan’s Financial Monitoring Service currently serves as Chair of the Egmont Group’s Membership, Support, and Compliance Working Group, thereby holding a seat on the Egmont Committee. This leadership role highlights Azerbaijan’s active engagement and growing influence within the Egmont Group and its contribution to upholding the integrity of the global financial intelligence framework.
