Egmont Group Members Elect Azerbaijani Financial Monitoring Service Official as Deputy Chair of Information Exchange Working Group

Release Date:

Nurlan Babayev, an official of the Financial Monitoring Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has been elected Deputy Chair of the Information Exchange Working Group by the member financial intelligence units of the Egmont Group.

The Egmont Group, established to strengthen international cooperation among financial intelligence units (FIUs), serves as a global platform for the secure exchange of financial intelligence and best practices in combating money laundering and terrorist financing. The organization currently brings together FIUs from 182 countries and operates through four specialized working groups, each with a distinct mandate to support the Group’s members.

Previously, another FMS official was twice elected Chair of the Egmont Group’s Membership, Support, and Compliance Working Group. As a result, the Financial Monitoring Service now holds leadership positions in two Egmont working groups, with one official as Chair and another as Deputy Chair, playing a central role in guiding these international bodies.

The Information Exchange Working Group coordinates the secure and effective sharing of information among member FIUs, strengthens international cooperation, and contributes to shaping strategic initiatives within the Egmont framework.

This election reflects the Financial Monitoring Service’s sustained and focused efforts in the AML/CFT field, its institutional development, and the trust it has earned in international collaboration. The Service actively participates in global initiatives, including secure financial intelligence exchange, joint analytical projects, risk assessments, and the implementation of technological solutions.

The achievement also aligns with Azerbaijan’s strategic priorities, reinforcing sustainable national development, enhancing the country’s international standing, and strengthening the credibility and influence of state institutions.
