Financial Monitoring Service Commemorates January 20 Martyrs

The Financial Monitoring Service (FMS) held a commemoration event today to honor the 35th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, a pivotal moment in Azerbaijan’s struggle for independence.

The event began with a moment of silence in remembrance of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Board, Mr. Zaur Fatizada, emphasized the historical significance of January 20, describing it as both a tragic and heroic chapter in Azerbaijan’s modern history. He stressed the importance of preserving the memory of this event and passing it on to future generations.

Ms. Leyla Baghirova, Head of the Protocol and Public Relations Division, also addressed the attendees, highlighting that while January 20 marks a national tragedy, it is also a symbol of resilience and patriotism. She noted that the events of 1990 demonstrated the Azerbaijani people’s unwavering commitment to freedom in the face of oppression.

The commemoration concluded with a screening of a documentary dedicated to the January 20 events, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to honoring the memory of its fallen heroes.
