The 2023 annual Egmont Group (EG) Working and Regional Group Meeting occurred from January 30 to February 3, 2023, in Dakar, Senegal.
Fuad Aliyev, Nurlan Babayev and Leyla Bagirova represented the Financial Monitoring Service within 3 different working groups.
Fuad Aliyev, acting as the chairman of the Membership, Support and Compliance working group, moderated the meeting. Four membership applications were reviewed by the mentioned working group, as well as the draft of new compliance and support procedures was discussed. Fuad Aliyev also attended the meeting of the Egmont Committee, which is the main management body of the EG organization, and participated in the adoption of decisions on the issues on the agenda.
Nurlan Babayev, a member of the Information Exchange working group, gave a presentation on new and emerging ML risks and challenges in Azerbaijan, shared the experience of our country in this field and answered the questions of the group members. Leyla Bagirova, participated in the meetings of the Technical Assistance and Training working group, made a presentation sharing the experience of FMS about the electronic learning platform launched last year, spoke about the advantages and the achievements of the platform, shed light to the questions of the group members regarding the learning platform.
It should be noted that EG is currently an international organization of financial intelligence units of 166 countries of the world are members, and its activities are organized on the basis of various projects implemented by working groups. Representation in the mentioned groups is of great importance in terms of international cooperation, as well as strengthening the reputation of the country and FMS, and at the same time increasing the opportunities to influence the processes taking place in this field at the international level.
