On 26 June 2025, a delegation led by Mr. Zaur Fatizada, Chairman of the Financial Monitoring Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in the International Forum of Financial Intelligence Units of the Turkic States, held in the Kyrgyz Republic.
In his address, Mr. Fatizada emphasized the relevance of the Forum, which was dedicated to the theme “Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risks in the Context of Digital Technologies and Virtual Assets: Experience of Turkic States.” He noted that addressing the emerging challenges in this sphere is only possible through a modern and collective approach. The Chairman also highlighted Azerbaijan’s national priorities in anti-money laundering and combating terrorist financing, outlining recent steps taken in regulating virtual asset service providers, implementing risk-based supervisory tools, and integrating advanced analytical systems.
Mr. Fatizada further noted that the first forum held in Shusha last year laid the foundation for continued cooperation, and that the current event serves as a logical continuation of that successful initiative.
As part of the Forum, Mr. Rauf Namazov, representative of the Financial Monitoring Service, delivered a presentation on “Virtual Assets,” providing an in-depth overview of reforms, regulatory measures, and strategic goals being pursued in this area in Azerbaijan.
During the Forum, participants discussed and unanimously adopted a Joint Communiqué, which outlines future directions for cooperation among the Financial Intelligence Units of the Turkic States. The document emphasizes experience sharing, joint training programs, regional coordination efforts, and envisions the involvement of observer parties and the development of a joint action plan.
