On July 31, 2024, the Financial Monitoring Service (FMS) of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations jointly organized a training session titled "Fundamentals of Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, and the Role of Religious Organizations in Countering Terrorist Financing."
The training, designed for representatives of religious communities, featured a presentation by Mr. Fuad Aliyev, Director of the Cooperation Department of the FMS. His presentation, "Fundamentals of Combating Terrorist Financing and the Obligations of Non-Profit Organizations (Religious Entities) in This Effort," addressed key challenges in the field and proposed solutions.
Participants were also introduced to the "Guidelines on the Application of Targeted Financial Sanctions" and provided with a new reporting template.
Additionally, Mr. Cahandar Alifzadeh, Head of the Religious Affairs Department at the State Committee, delivered a lecture on "The Development of State-Religion Relations as a Key Tool in Combating Terrorism," while staff member of the same department Mr. Aslan Sultanov presented on "The Role of Religion in Terrorist Financing."
The session concluded with a Q&A session, during which participants' questions were addressed.
Notably, the training brought together a total of 70 participants.
